Bamboo Housing Project
Country
Nepal(Sunsari)
Development Period
2012
Objectives
To develop more efficient bamboo housing technology, in terms of soundproofing and heat insulation, through the use of locally acquired materials
To construct various housing models that can accommodate the different levels of income of the local people
To supply the bamboo housing technology to different regions and countries
Current Situation
After KIPO developed a new kind of bamboo housing technology, seven bamboo houses with improved soundproofing and heat insulation were built, using Korean donations, from 2012 to 2013. Nepal Habitat then hosted a donation campaign called "Please give a warm winter to Nepal" in order to coordinate the distribution of the AT bamboo houses. In 2014, KIPO provided the Satkhira District of Bangladesh with seven AT houses, and in the following year, three other beneficiaries in the Sunsari District of Nepal, on their own free will, requested to use this technology to build their own houses.
